Kim Garretson

Kim Garretson is a founding partner of Ovative/Group and leads the Emerging Innovation practice area. Garretson connects venture capital firms and their portfolio companies with enterprise customers. He also works with major corporations on their strategy and innovation initiatives for the future of digital and mobile business to provide roadmaps for “realizing innovation” in the realtime evolving markets and sources of digital innovation. Garretson works in both B-to-C and B-to-B innovation. In B-to-B, his focus is on emerging platforms in social media and a company’s overall marketing mix when there are multiple locations, agents, distributors and retailers of common digital physical and digital products and services.

Garretson has a 30-year track record of digital innovation, beginning in 1982 with his launch of a software company for early PCs.

Garretson recently was liaison to the venture capital industry in Best Buy’s Strategy and Innovation Department. There he was responsible for informing the VC industry and other centers of innovation at universities on Best Buy’s transformational digital business roadmaps, while helping to vet and validate the superior solutions. He also led Best Buy’s emerging media and monetization practice beginning in 2002. Prior, he was co-founder of the digital agency NOVO, now a part of Leo Burnett advertising, and earlier he founded the digital practice at an Interpublic Group agency.

Among Garretson’s digital innovations are the online industry’s first digital magazine via the Prodigy service, the first CD-Rom/Web service via Scripps Networks, a video broadband network for TimeWarner and Best Buy’s initial digital content services for connected consumer electronics devices.
